Leaders of the central Argentinean provinces of Entre Rios, Santa Fe and Cordoba expressed their wish to boost ties with Vietnam in economy, trade and investment during a meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in Hanoi on June 1. 

Governor of Entre Rios province Bordet Gustavo Eduardo, head of the delegation, informed the PM about the outcomes of its working session with Hanoi’s leaders, adding that the provinces also want to foster cultural exchanges with Vietnam. 

Governor of Sante Fe province Lifchits Roberto Miguel said he was delighted to see that the Vietnamese people are keen on football. As Argentina’s football industry has developed very strongly, the country could assist Vietnam by providing coaches and training for football players, he said.

Miguel hoped that leaders of the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will visit the three provinces soon to discuss cooperation opportunities. 

According to him, the provinces have strengths in agriculture, especially animal husbandry, so that the potential for cooperation with Vietnam is huge. 

Agreeing with the guests’ proposal to develop football cooperation, PM Phuc said it is a promising field. 

The PM asked the two countries to step up joint work in the fields of strength, including trade, adding that Vietnam has many key staples such as electronic products, rice, coffee, rubber, cashew nuts while Argentina has strengths in machinery and equipment, automobile spare parts, meat and dairy products. Vietnam wants to push forward a more balanced trade with Argentina, he said. 

Noting that Vietnam has a favourable business environment that attracts huge foreign direct investment, PM Phuc proposed establishing partnership between central Argentine provinces and Vietnamese localities, especially in the context that Vietnam is integrating into the world economy. 

The leader affirmed that once Argentine firms enter Vietnam, they could penetrate ASEAN, China and other Asian markets.

Lawmakers discuss draft laws on 11th working day

Lawmakers discussed a number of draft laws during a plenary session in Hanoi on June 1 presided over by National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. 

Under the direction of NA Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu in the morning, they debated the draft laws on amendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on Chemicals, the Law on Electricity, the Law on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy, the Law on Tobacco  Harm Prevention, the Law on Food Safety, the Law on Pharmaceuticals, the Law on Notary, the Child Law, the Investment Law, the Public Investment Law, the Law on Science and Technology, the Law on Construction, and the Law on Urban Planning.

Twenty deputies raised opinions, most of them basically agreed with reports on reviewing the draft laws.

Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung clarified several issues raised by deputies. 

Under the direction of NA Vice Chairman Do Ba Ty in the afternoon, NA heard a report on the draft Law on Animal Husbandry delivered by Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong. 

Head of the NA’s Committee on Science, Technology and Environment Phan Xuan Dung presented a report reviewing the draft Law on Animal Husbandry. 

Later, Dung delivered a report on acquiring feedback on the Law on Survey and Mapping.

Fourteen lawmakers shared opinions on basic principles of survey and mapping activities, design of administrative and underground works maps, the database on national geographical space, business requirements for survey and mapping services. 

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha provided further information about several issues of interest. 

As scheduled on June 4, the NA will listen to a report on the outcomes of dealing with suggestions by constituents sent to the fourth session and conduct question-and-answer sessions, which will be live broadcast nationwide.

Vietnam attends international seminar on Marxism in Nepal

The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) hosted an international seminar themed “Karl Marx and today socialism” in the capital city of Kathmandu on May 30 and 31 on the occasion of the great philosopher’s 200th birth anniversary. 

A Vietnamese delegation led by Permanent Vice Chairman of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Tran Dac Loi attended the event. 

Also present at the event were NCP Chairman and Nepalese Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli, Nepalese ministers and parliamentarians, 300 domestic politicians, researchers and scientists, over 40 foreign delegates from 22 communist and workers’ parties worldwide. 

Participants hailed Marx as a great thinker and philosopher who made significant contributions to society, towards building a better life for human kinds. 

Marx’s thoughts currently remain a lodestar for communist, workers’ and left-wing parties and labourers in many countries in the struggle for freedom, fairness, equality, peace and prosperity. 

Almost opinions shared the view that communist and workers’ parties need to fully grasp and creatively apply basic principles of Marxism to build a path toward socialism that suits each country’s conditions.

Sharing experience in building socialism in Nepal, China, Vietnam and Cuba, delegates affirmed that socialism is the most effective and scientific solution for human kinds to overcome the crisis of capitalism. 

They underscored the importance of strengthening international solidarity among communist and workers’ parties at present as appealed by eminent thinker Karl Marx.

Vietnam, Japan agree to step up security cooperation

Vietnamese and Japanese officials have agreed to strengthen cooperation in security issues between the two countries as well as in regional and world security matters. 

The consensus was reached at a meeting between Vietnamese Minister of Public Security Sen. Lieut. Gen. To Lam and Hachiro Okonogi, Chairman of the National Public Safety Commission of Japan, which took place on the sidelines of President Tran Dai Quang’s state visit to the East Asian country.

The two sides reviewed Vietnam-Japan cooperation in law enforcement, noting that the Vietnam Ministry of Public Security had sustained regular links with relevant Japanese agencies.

Since 2013, Vietnam and Japan have taken turns holding five deputy ministerial-level security dialogues, creating an effective cooperative channel and contributing to the growth of the bilateral ties.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Japanese National Public Safety Commission have cooperated in different fields such as exchanging information, dealing with regional security, investigating transnational crimes, and ensuring safety for citizens of both nations.

The same day, Minister To Lam had a working session with Shunichi Kuryu, Commissioner General of the National Police Agency of Japan. 

They discussed a training project between the two agencies to enhance capacity in ensuring cyber security and preventing crimes.

The officials also touched on increasing the exchange of experts in specific areas in the coming time to maintain national security and social order and safety in both countries.

Ceremony marking 45th anniversary of Việt Nam - Japan ties held in Tokyo

A ceremony marking the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Việt Nam and Japan was held in Tokyo yesterday.

At the event were President Trần Đại Quang and spouse, Vietnamese high-level officials, Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, Foreign Minister Taro Kono, other ministers in the Japanese cabinet and 50 deputies in the National Diet, as well as representatives from the Vietnamese community in Japan.

The attendance of the Japanese Emperor and spouse has showcased Japan’s special appreciation towards the growing partnership for a peaceful and prosperous Asia between the two countries.

Speaking at the ceremony, Việt Nam Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Phạm Bình Minh said that on September 21, 1973, the two countries officially marked the beginning of a journey based on trust, mutual respect and shared benefits. The Deputy PM said Việt Nam and Japan were not just strategic partners but also close and understanding friends, which were manifested by consecutive high-level visits made by leaders of the two countries.

The visit by the Emperor Akihito and spouse made to Việt Nam last year left a warm impressions in the minds and hearts of millions of Vietnamese, Deputy PM Minh said.

He believed moving forward, the relationship would continue to ‘blossom.’

For his part, Taro Kano, Japan’s foreign minister stressed that Việt Nam – Japan bilateral relations is at historic high point. The two have committed to deepen co-operation in several areas including political co-operation, security and defence, human resources development, culture and sport, as well as agreed to join hands in addressing regional and international issues.

At the ceremony, on behalf of the Vietnamese Government, President Trần Đại Quang awarded friendship medals to several Japanese citizens  who have contributed considerably to the growing ties between the two countries, including Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party and President of Việt Nam – Japan parliamentary friendship alliance Toshihiro Nikai, Chairman of the Policy Research Council of the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Fumio Kishida, and Buddhist monk Yoshimizu Daichi. — VNS
