NA leader lauds ambassador’s efforts to tighten Vietnam-Cuba links

National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan received outgoing Cuban Ambassador Herminio Lopez Diaz on August 21, appreciating the diplomat’s contributions to Vietnam-Cuba special traditional relations during his term.

She expressed her delight at the growth of bilateral relations over the past years, noting that political ties have continually been enhanced through the maintenance of delegation exchanges at all levels between the countries’ Parties, States, parliaments, ministries, sectors and localities.

Congratulating Cuba on its political, economic and diplomatic achievements, which have helped create prerequisites for next development stages, she voiced her belief that the Cuban people will obtain even greater achievements in updating their economic model.

At the meeting, Ambassador Herminio Lopez Diaz shared the outcomes of his working term in Vietnam, as well as his sentiment towards the country and people of Vietnam.

Noting the close parliamentary cooperation, he added aside from the thriving political-diplomatic relations, the countries’ cooperation in other spheres, including health care, have also been being promoted.

It’s now a good time for the two countries to increase economic and trade partnerships, he said, adding that the Cuban Embassy and the embassies of other Latin American nations want to establish a centre of Latin American culture in Vietnam.

Chairwoman Ngan and the ambassador agreed that the Vietnam-Cuba solidarity and friendship are a precious asset that the two Parties and nations need to treasure and hand down to future generations.

Herminio Lopez Diaz promised on whichever positions he will hold after returning to Cuba, he will always support and help nurture the time-honoured solidarity and friendship between the two countries.

Vietnamese, Lao Party offices sign cooperation agreement

The Offices of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee signed a cooperation agreement for the 2017-2020 period in Hanoi on August 21.

The deal was inked after the talks between Secretary of the CPV Central Committee and head of the CPV Central Committee Office Nguyen Van Nen and Politburo member, head of the LPRP Central Committee Office Khamphanh Phommathat.

The officials informed each other about the situation of their respective Parties, countries and offices in the recent time and discussed cooperation between the two offices in the time ahead.

Following the talks, the directors of the offices’ archives departments also signed a plan to carry out the cooperation programme on records management, archives and library from now to 2020.

The delegation of the LPRP Central Committee Office has been on a working visit to Vietnam from August 20-24.

Ceremony marks Ukraine’s National Day in Hanoi

The Vietnam – Hungary Friendship Association (VHFA) held a ceremony in Hanoi on August 19 celebrating the 26th anniversary of National Day of Ukraine (August 24) and the 25th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties (January 23). 

Speaking at the event, VHFA President Dang Van Chien hailed prospects of bilateral ties across agro-fisheries, garment, machinery and spare parts, technological transfer and tourism in the future. 

The VHFA and Vietnamese people in general commit to supporting Ukrainian people, he said, adding that he believes bilateral ties will continue thriving in the coming time. 

Ukrainian Ambassador to Vietnam Oleksiy Shovkoplias said his government always strives to provide support for its people, including Vietnamese nationals living and working in the country. 

He expressed his belief that bilateral ties will be further strengthened, particularly in trade, and Ukraine will continue receiving assistance from the Vietnamese State and people in the future.

NA leader: Vietnam treasures relations with Mongolia

Vietnam always treasures and wants to consolidate and further enhance traditional relations with Mongolia, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Uong Chu Luu said.

Luu made the statement during his reception in Hanoi on August 18 for Secretary General of the Mongolian Parliament Office Tsend Tsolmon, who has been on a five-day working visit to Vietnam.

He highlighted that achievements in bilateral relations in the past six decades will lay foundation for the two sides to promote cooperation in a more practical and effective manner.

The leader hoped that the two countries will maintain high-level meetings and visits to enhance friendship and mutual understanding between the Vietnamese and Mongolian peoples, increase political trust and expand cooperation.

Vietnam and Mongolia should coordinate closely in issues of common concern and support each other at regional and international forums, he said.

For his part, Tsend Tsolmon expressed his delight at the positive development and close coordination between the two countries in the past years.

He wished that the National Assembly Office of Vietnam and the Mongolian Parliament Secretariat will strengthen cooperation, focusing on sharing experience, application of information and technology as well as communications for parliamentary activities.

PM offers incense to late President in Hanoi’s outlying district

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc offered incense to late President Ho Chi Minh at the Da Chong (K9) historical relic site in Hanoi’s outlying district of Ba Vi on August 20, on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of August Revolution and National Day (September 2) and the 48th death anniversary of the late leader (September 2). 

K9 was a venue where President Ho Chi Minh, Politburo and Party Central Committee members decided the country’s crucial issues during the anti-American war. It was also chosen to preserve the body of the late President from 1969-1975. 

At a working session with the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Management Board at the site, the PM asked the board to continue working closely with the Defence Ministry to preserve the body of the late President

He took the occasion to urge the municipal People’s Committee to consider the board’s proposal to upgrade transport infrastructure leading to the K9 relic site. 

Cities and provinces nationwide should devise agenda to popularise the site so that more visitors could gain an insight into the life and career of President Ho Chi Minh, he said

Major General Nguyen Van Cuong, head of the board and Commander of the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Guard High Command, reported that the mausoleum welcomed nearly 2.2 million visitors in the first half of the year, including 495,000 foreigners. Tourist arrivals to the mausoleum rose10-12 percent annually on average. 

The board also upgraded President Ho Chi Minh memorial house, launched free wifi and opened electronic kiosks to popularise the life and career of the late leader, among others. 

On the occasion, the PM also planted trees and visited several buildings at the K9 relic site.
