Party leader visits Nhan Dan Newspaper
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong paid a working visit to Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper on June 9, in the lead up to the 87th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21).
Mr Trong was briefed on the newspaper’s implementation of political tasks since the 11th National Party Congress, including the progress of its six publications including the Nhan Dan Daily, Nhan Dan Weekend, Nhan Monthly, Thoi Nay (Present Day) and Vietnamese and English versions of Nhan Dan Online
All publications follow the political orientations based on the functions, guidelines and objectives set by the newspaper.
Nhan Dan has made great efforts to improve the quality of its media products, aiming to impart information about Party guidelines and policies, the 11th National Party Congress resolutions, and Government measures to curb inflation, stabilise the macro-economy and ensure social welfare, as well as issues related to agricultural and industrial production.
Talking to Nhan Dan reporters and editors, the Party chief praised the achievements they have recorded over the past years while highlighting the important role Nhan Dan has played in the national revolutionary cause.
He said he believes that with its glorious tradition as the Party newspaper, Nhan Dan will continue to play a full role in orienting the ideological work of the revolutionary press.
Working with the staff and reporters of the Communist Review the same day, the Party leader affirmed the important role and position of the Communist Review as a theoretical and political organ of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee.
He praised the achievements made by the Communist Review staff over the past time, saying that they remarkably contributed to the Party’s theoretical and political popularisation work as well as to the common revolutionary cause of the nation.
Regarding future orientations, General Secretary Trong stressed that the Communist Review should closely follow resolutions and conclusions of the Party Central Committee to do well its editorial and publication work and scientific activities.
Seminar highlights supervisory role of female NA deputies

The role of female National Assembly (NA) deputies in NA supervisory activities was discussed at a seminar organized on June 9 by the NA Committee for Social Affairs and the Policy Implementation Assistance Project (PIAP) in Thai Nguyen city.
The seminar aimed to offer female NA deputies more information and knowledge about supervisory skills, and propose ways to improve the NA’s supervisory activities.
In her speech at the meeting, NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong described the seminar as a practical activity for female NA deputies that allows them to share their experience in the field. She also underlined the need to renew the way the group of female deputies operates in order to improve the quality of the legislative body’s work.
Vietnam, Spain move towards stronger bilateral ties
Since they officially established diplomatic relations in 1977, Vietnam and Spain have always attached great importance to strengthening their bilateral cooperation which has grown and flourished over the past years.
Vietnamese ambassador to Spain Truong Trieu Duong said this in a recent interview for El Mundo Financiero (the World of Finance) newspaper about recent bilateral relations between Vietnam and Spain to mark the 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
During former President Nguyen Minh Triet's visit to Spain in 2009, the two nations set up a strategic partnership looking towards the future and signed a joint action programme to define the framework of a special relationship to further develop comprehensive cooperation in line with the expectations of the two governments and peoples.
Vietnam considers Spain an important gateway for accessing the European Union (EU), which is a major trade partner of Vietnam.
Spain currently ranks fourth among the 27 EU nations in total trade exchanges with Vietnam. It regards Vietnam as a priority partner for developing relations in the Asia and Pacific regions and hopes to expand long-term, mutually beneficial cooperation between the two nations, ambassador Duong said.
The Vietnamese diplomat introduced Spanish readers the country's socio-economic and political situation over the past years, adding that despite starting as a war-ravaged low-income nation with an underdeveloped economy, Vietnam has taken full advantage of opportunities to overcome its difficulties and challenges, especially the negative impacts of the global financial and economic crisis, to gain tremendous socio-economic development.
Ambassador Duong also highlighted Vietnam’s outstanding achievements in culture, education, national defence, security and external affairs over the past decade, saying that the country has been recognized as a model for poverty reduction by the UN. Vietnam has exerted great efforts to translate its challenges into opportunities and maintain high economic growth, even in the face of the global economic downturn.
The country has also continued to attract increasing foreign investment, especially from the US, Japan, the EU and Spain, which have also been affected by the worldwide economic doldrums.
El Mundo Financiero said Vietnam has recorded the highest economic growth rate in Southeast Asia and the second highest in Asia, at an annual average of 8 percent. According to the US global investment banking securities firm Goldman Sachs, Vietnam is listed among the Next Eleven (N-11) group of nations that have posted consistent economic growth.
Association helps tighten Vietnam-Cuba ties
The Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association’s Hanoi chapter held its fourth congress for the 2012-2017 tenure in the capital city on June 9.
The congress drew the participation of more than 130 people representing over 1,000 members of the chapter. The Ambassadors of Cuba, Argentine, Mexico and Venezuela to Vietnam also attended the event.
Over the past years, the association chapter has taken part in numerous people-to-people diplomacy activities, helping tighten the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries in general and between the two capital cities in particular.
According to President Nguyen Viet Thao, the key tasks of the chapter in the future are to increase activities to promote the image of Vietnam and organise exchanges during holidays to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between Hanoi and Havana .
The chapter will also hold talks between small-and-medium sized enterprises from both countries to seek opportunities for cooperation and organise humanitarian activities to raise funds for the poor and victims of natural disasters.
The Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association’s Hanoi chapter now has 18 branches with more than 1,000 members.
Vietnam-China theoretical workshop successful
The eighth theoretical workshop between the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the Communist Party of China (CPC) closed in Ha Long City in the northern Quang Ninh province on June 9.
Dinh The Huynh, Politburo member, Secretary of the CPV’s Central Committee (CPV CC) and Director of the CPV CC’s Popularisation and Education Commission, and Liu Yunshan, Politburo member, Secretary of the CPC Central Committee’s Secretariat and Director of the CPC CC’s Propaganda Department, spoke highly of the workshop’s outcomes after three days of working.
They said theoretical discussions are necessary and useful for both Parties, therefore this is a substantial and effective content in cooperation between the two Parties and should continue to be held in the coming time.
The focus of the three-day event was Vietnam’s new model of economic growth and the change of methods of economic development in China.
Over four working sessions, participants heard two introductory reports presented by the two delegations’ heads, Dinh The Huynh and Liu Yunshan, and 20 other papers.
The reports affirmed the significance and importance of renewing the economic growth model and changing modes of development in the renewal process in Vietnam and the open-door reform in China.
They analysed theoretical and practical issues and experiences relating to the shift of economic growth model and industrial and agricultural restructuring. The combination of economic and socio-cultural development and environmental protection was also discussed.
The two sides also shared experiences in how to improve the party’s leadership during the process of changing the model of economic growth.
During their stay in Vietnam , the Chinese delegation visited Quang Ninh province and had a working session with the local leaders.
