VietNamNet Bridge - The Government has nominated two candidates for the post of Deputy Prime Minister - Head of the Government Office Vu Duc Dam and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.

Talking at a press conference on October 17, Chairman of the Office of the National Assembly – Mr. Nguyen Hanh Phuc - said that at the upcoming 6th session of the National Assembly (NA), at the Government’s proposal, the NA will dismiss Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan as Deputy Prime Minister and Mr. Vu Duc Dam as the Chairman of the Government Office.

Nhan is now the Chair of the Central Committee of the Fatherland Front, replace Huynh Dam and Dam is proposed to replace Nhan as the Deputy PM. In addition, the government wanted to have another Deputy PM and nominated Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh to this post.

The Government does not suggest any candidate to replace Minh as the Foreign Minister so if the proposal is approved, Minh will likely be the Foreign Minister, too, like Mr. Pham Gia Khiem did before.

Regarding the replacement of Dam as the Head of the Office of Government, Phuc said the government has not filed up any proposal.

According to the meeting agenda, the new deputy prime minister will be introduced on November 14.

The Government currently has four Deputy Prime Ministers, including Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Hoang Trung Hai, Nguyen Thien Nhan and Vu Van Ninh.

The 6th NA session will open on October 21 and close on November 30, or 40 days. According to Deputy Director of the NA Office – Dr. Nguyen Si Dung, this is the longest session of this NA term.

At the session, the NA will consider and pass the amended 1992 Constitution and eight bills and make comments on 12 bills. As usual, the question and answer session will take place in 2 ½ days.
