VietNamNet Bridge – The World Wild Fund will give 8.2 million euros (US$11.89 million) in funds to develop a carbon reserve area and forest biology preservation area in the central provinces of Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Nam.
This project is part of the Prevention of Deforestation in Central Provinces of Viet Nam, developed by the WWF.
With an area of 200,000ha, the project includes the natural preservation zone of the sao la (Pseudoryx nghetinhensis), a rare and endangered species, in Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Nam provinces as well as the expansion of Bach Ma National Park in Thua Thien-Hue Province and the Xe Sap national preservation in Laos.
The project is expected to be finished by 2015.
Van Ngoc Thinh, manager of Central Truong Son Preservation Programme under the WWF, said the project aimed to improve the environment in the riverhead protective forest area, create more jobs, and increase the income of local residents.
