VietNamNet Bridge – The Viet Nam Cashew Association has asked the Ministry of Public Security and other ministries and agencies to support the association to crack down on the theft of goods from containers meant for export.

Many cashew exporters had reported loss of goods en route to ports, the association said.

OLAM Viet Nam, Long Son, Tan Hoa, Huynh Minh, and Donafoods Co Ltd, and several other companies have reported such losses.

Donafoods, for instance, lost 538 boxes worth $102,000 this year.

Nguyen Thai Hoc, chairman of the association, said members had lost more than $2 million since 2007.

Besides the financial losses, this could also affect the country's prestige, he warned.

The association wants Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc to order the Ministry of Public Security to investigate, strengthen security checks, and prevent the thefts.

It also wants him to order the Ministry of Transport to make it mandatory for container transportation firms to equip their vehicles with global positioning systems.
