VietNamNet Bridge – The Ministry of Health on April 8 began testing made-in-Vietnam type A/H5N1 vaccine on humans--the third stage, in the northern province of Vietnam.

This is the last stage of testing before the vaccine is mass-produced.

The test will be conducted on 1,000 volunteers from the provinces of Thanh Hoa and Ha Nam. This is the second dose. The first dose was injected one month ago. Twenty-eight days later, blood of volunteers will be tested.

The last test will be finalized in May, by the Army Medical Institute.

In the first two tests, the vaccine proved to be effective and safe, meeting European standards.

The vaccine has been researched by the Vaccine and Bio-product Company N0. 1 since 2004. The Ministry of Health has recognized it as one of the 26 outstanding achievements of the health sector.

So far, 123 Vietnamese people have been reported to be infected with type A/H5N1 influenza and 61 of them have died.
