VietNamNet Bridge – The Ha Noi People's Committee has asked district authorities to inspect construction site ponds after the recent heavy rains as they could pose a safety hazard.

Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, deputy chairwoman of the municipal People's Committee also asked relevant offices to develop a warning system to inform residents of the risks.

The instructions were prompted after several children drowned in construction site ponds.

On October 2, three children from Thanh Xuan Commune, Soc Son District drowned at a construction site for the Soc Son underpass. In an earlier incident, four children drowned at the Lang-Hoa Lac Highway construction site in Tu Liem District.

As many as 1,000 construction projects are currently being implemented in the city. Many have dug large holes to collect rain water which pose a safety risk for children.
