VietNamNet Bridge – Three members of a family in Quang Loc commune, Can Loc district in the central province of Ha Tinh were found dead by coal gas on the morning of December 26.

The three people, including Tran Tho Vu, 26, his wife Nguyen Thi Thao, 24, and Vu’s mother Than Thi Phuong, 53 died on their beds in the 10sq.m room.

Thao delivered a child on December 23. Vu’s mother went to her son’s home to take care of her daughter-in-law.

The case was detected by Vu’s father, Tran Huu Duc, 57. This man did not see his wife returning home so he went to his son’s house at around 8am. He knocked the door but nobody answered him. He pried open the window and saw three people lied motionless in their beds.

Duc and neighbors broke open the door but three people were dead. Luckily, the baby’s heart still fluttered. The baby was quickly rescued.

Local police said that the three people were dead because of coal gas from two braziers while all doors were close.

It is still a custom in Vietnam’s countryside that new-born babies and their mothers are heated by coal. This customs has caused many deaths in recent years.
