More than 200 teachers in Ky Anh district, central Ha Tinh province, are set to lose their jobs this month as the district authority has introduced new contract rules.

The district authority has directed all schools to cancel the contracts of those who were not hired by the provincial education and training department.

Late last month, Ky Anh district's Department of Education and Training notified all local kindergartens, primary, and secondary schools to make a list of teachers who signed up with the district's education department instead of the provincial authority.

These teachers will be forced to quit their jobs, although they will receive wages and additional allowance as stipulated.

Nguyen Thi Tuong Van, the deputy head of the district's department, said that more than 200 teachers, mostly from primary and secondary schools, will face contract termination by the end of this year.

Many had signed contracts for two to eight years with the district authority, she added.

Van called it unfair, but noted that schools had no choice as there was no budget to pay salaries to teachers.

Anh, a teacher who worked at Ky Tien Primary School, remarked she is worried about her future as the district authority does not have another plan for them.

Tran Huy Lieu, deputy head of the provincial Department of Internal Affairs, pointed out that schools and the district's education and training department will take responsibility for these teachers.

They will be compensated as stipulated by the current law, but they will not be assigned to another post, he stressed.
