VietNamNet Bridge – Police of the central province of Ha Tinh on December 26, detected the largest wildlife trafficking case in the province so far. Nearly two tons of wild animals, including snakes, turtles and iguanas were seized.



Senior lieutenant colonel Pham Viet Hung, vice chief of Ha Tinh Province Economic Police Department, said that driver Nguyen Van Linh, 26, from Huong Son district, was arrested with 23 baskets of snakes, 128 baskets of iguanas and 14 bags of turtles on his truck. The total weight is up to 1,953kg.

The animals were handed over to the Ha Tinh Forest Protection Bureau. As the animals are not listed as endangered species, they were auctioned on December 27, worth VND370 million ($18,000).



In the past one month, Ha Tinh authorities seized three wild animal trafficking cases on National Highway 8A, the section crossing Huong Son district, where have the Cau Treo border gate on the Laos-Vietnam border.
