The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism yesterday signed a document to recognize the Hai Van Gate as a national relic site, the Hue Monuments Preservation Center announced.

The  Department of Culture and Sports in the central province of Thua Thien – Hue and its counterpart in city of Da Nang, the Hue Monuments Preservation Center sent documents to the Ministry proposing to recognize the gate as the national relic site.

The gate is situated in the Hai Van Pass between Thua Thien-Hue Province’s Lang Co Town and Da Nang city’s Lien Chieu District in the central region, drawing a large number of tourists from near and far owing to its stunning beauty and the thrills they feel when travelling on the most scenic pass in Vietnam.

The construction of the gate was carried out Tran Dynasty and restoration of the gate was undergone during the reign of Emperor Minh Mang in 1826. 

Combining nature and the creations of man, the gate deserves its name ‘the most marvelous wonder’ which was given to it by Emperor Le Thanh Tong when he went sightseeing there. .

The pass is about 490 meters above  sea level. The site is known as an important gate under Nguyen Dynasty which built many military construction along the gate. 

The work is about ten meters high and has a floor for tourists to capture the breathtaking scenery below.

Director of the Hue Monuments Preservation Center Dr. Phan Thanh Hai said that the recognition of the gate will be foundation for local governments to preserve and protect the relic better. 

The center will add Hai Van gate into the index of construction under Nguyen Dynasty in the document to UNESSCO.
