PM Pham Minh Chinh has just approved a proposal from Haiphong authorities on developing Tien Lang Airport, which would be its second international airport following Cat Bi, in order to serve the city's socio-economic development.
The PM has asked the Ministry of Transport to study the Tien Lang Airport construction plan, which has been included in national airport planning in the 2021-2030 period, with a vision toward 2050.
In a recent meeting with leaders of Hai Phong City, PM Chinh also agreed with the city's proposal to adjust the general planning for developing the Cat Bi International Airport with a capacity of handling 13 million passengers per year by 2030 and 16.6 million by 2050.
The Transport Ministry has been asked to build runway 2 at Cat Bi Airport to serve its development plan.
Haiphong is currently a manufacturing hub for numerous economic groups and well-known investors, including LG from Korea, VinFast, and Bridgestone. It is also an international port and a major industrial centre, as well as an important traffic hub thanks to heavy investment in a modern seaport system and traffic infrastructure.
Infrastructure includes the Hanoi-Haiphong Expressway, Tan Vu-Lach Huyen Highway, as well as the highway connecting Halong-Hanoi-Haiphong, Lach Huyen international gateway port, and Cat Bi International Airport.
