After local newspapers published the story of Ethan Burns, a 4-year-old boy living in Carshalton, England, who has a rare condition which causes his hand movements to exactly mirror each other, a similar case has been found in Hanoi. This is a 17-month-old boy named Pho Duc An, from Thai Ha Street, Dong Da District, Hanoi.
The boy’s father, Pho Ky Nam, 30, said this phenomenon has been happened for more than one year.
According to reporters’ observation, when the boy’s mother, Dang Minh Trang, put a ball in the boy’s right hand, his left hand imitated exactly, meaning that each also moved like holding the ball. Trang tried to spread his left hand, his right hand also spread out automatically, dropping the ball.
Seeing the toys in front of his face, the baby used a hand to pick up toys and the other hand did the same moves, from holding to spreading, even if one finger in this hand moved, the similar finger of the other hand had the same movement.
"I discovered the phenomenon of my son when he was 3 and 4 months old. I thought that it would change but it has not changed after more than one year. We have invited specialized teachers home to help him for a few months but there is no significant change,” Trang said.
According to the couple, the boy was born with normal health. However, compared with children of the same age, the baby is slower in movement and communications.
He is 17 months old already but the baby cannot stand. He cannot crawl and speak, just pronouncing several sounds to show his feelings. However, he eats and sleeps well.
"We took him to doctors but they did not detect any unusual sign in his body, except for the slow movement and communications. However, reading the article about Ethan Burn, who has similar phenomena like our son but suffering from eye cancer, we are very worried," the father said.
"Doctors could not diagnose his illness, except for a doctor at the Central Pediatrics Hospital who said that the baby has the "synergy" phenomenon. However, the doctor could not give further explanation of the phenomenon as well as the treatment. I hope someone knows about the disease of my son and how to cure it", Nam said.
