For the past two days, heavy rainfall has turned the Ecohome 1 and Ecohome 3 apartment complexes in Dong Ngac Ward, Hanoi, into severe flooding hotspots, directly affecting thousands of residents.

Mai Thai Viet, a resident of Ecohome 1, expressed concern: “This area has been flooded for two days, and we are nearly out of options. Because it’s a low-lying area, rainwater rises very quickly. If it’s not drained early, each additional shower makes things worse. This is the most severe flooding we’ve ever experienced.”

Water has poured into the first floors and parking garages, forcing many families to evacuate. Vehicles submerged in deep water have suffered significant damage.

“We live in a low-income housing complex. Residents park their vehicles nearby, but now everything is underwater,” Viet said. “My family, along with many others, can no longer move around.”

Nguyen The Manh, another resident, shared similar frustration: “Every time it rains, Ecohome floods. It’s a natural basin, so water from all around flows here. We’re entirely dependent on support from family and local authorities for our daily needs.”

He also raised concerns for the safety of children: “We hope for a comprehensive drainage solution, especially to ensure safety for students at Dong Ngac Primary School, which is also heavily flooded.”

In Ecohome 3, the water has risen more than one meter. The apartments have lost power and water supply, with garbage piling up and causing serious sanitation issues.

Nguyen Van Hach, Chairman of Dong Ngac Ward People's Committee, stated: “We are urgently providing clean water and daily essentials to residents. Once the water recedes, electricity and water will be restored. We are also coordinating with response teams to disinfect and ensure a safe environment.”

Hach also visited the affected areas to oversee emergency responses. “At Ecohome 1, water flooded the underground parking and garbage storage area, creating severe hygiene concerns. We’re working urgently to clean up. The situation at Ecohome 3 is better, as authorities and residents managed to block water in time, keeping the parking garage safe.”

Flooding has long been a recurring nightmare for residents of these complexes. Locals insist that only a fully integrated, long-term drainage system can permanently resolve the problem.

More than ever, residents are urging city authorities and relevant agencies to take decisive action. With the rainy season ongoing, thousands of households in Dong Ngac desperately need sustainable solutions to minimize damage and ensure safety.
