VietNamNet Bridge – Because of power loss, an 11-year-old boy lit up a big candle. The candle unexpectedly exploded, fire flared up, catching to the boy’s clothes.

The fire occurred on the evening of May 30. The boy was brought to Saint Paul Hospital immediately.

Dr. Nguyen Thong, head of the Burn Ward, said the child was seriously burnt. Over 40 percent of his skin area was wounded, especially the face.

Thong said the boy’s burns got more serious because of his family’s poor knowledge in treating burns. Seeing fire catch the boy’s clothes, they extinguished the fire and took clothes off the boy, resulting in a large area of skin peeling off.

They also applied python fat onto burns, causing difficulties for doctors in treatment.

After a week, the boy escaped from danger but he was still very painful. He will have to experience a long time of treatment.

The family said that they lit up a big Made-in-China candle when power was cut. The boy read a book near the candle when it suddenly exploded.

Dr. Thong said that first aid is an important factor to make the burn deep or hollow, while many people lack knowledge about this.
