Hanoi has started construction on the Pearl Theater and cultural park project worth over 520 million USD, marking a major milestone ahead of the Capital’s Liberation Day.
The Pearl Theater (Tay Ho, Hanoi) will cover a total floor area of 40,980 square meters - nearly six times the size of a standard football field - with two auditoriums accommodating more than 2,000 people.

On the morning of October 5, the Hanoi People’s Committee officially broke ground on the Hanoi Opera House (Pearl Theater) and the specialized cultural and art park project, with a total investment of 12.756 trillion VND (approximately 520 million USD).
This is one of the city’s key projects celebrating the 71st anniversary of the Capital’s Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 – October 10, 2025).
Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member and President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics; Bui Thi Minh Hoai, Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee; along with other former and current government leaders attended the ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Nguyen Xuan Thang emphasized that cultural development today requires harmonizing national and international values, blending traditional and contemporary art forms, and bridging popular and academic culture. Symphony and opera, he said, represent the pinnacle of academic art.
“We Vietnamese not only have the capacity to create in these modern artistic fields but also the right to enjoy the world’s cultural treasures,” he stated.
Duong Duc Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, affirmed: “Once completed, the project will enhance Hanoi’s cultural identity and transform the capital into a world-class cultural and tourism destination. The city commits to providing maximum support to ensure timely, safe, and high-quality completion.”

According to the investor, the Hanoi Opera House and Cultural Art Park project is being developed around Dam Tri Lake, Quang An Peninsula, Tay Ho District, covering 40 hectares.
The large-scale cultural and artistic complex is fully funded through socialized capital by Sun Group, while Hanoi’s authorities will strictly manage and oversee the design, construction, and operation processes.
The theater’s total floor area is approximately 40,980 square meters, including two main halls: an opera auditorium seating 1,797 guests, and a flexible multipurpose hall with movable seating accommodating 1,430 standing and 216 balcony seats.
The complex will host symphony concerts, operas, ballets, Broadway musicals, galas, and award ceremonies. It will also serve as a premier venue for cultural exchange and international artistic collaboration.
Its most striking architectural feature is the “unprecedented” dome inspired by the rippling waves of West Lake, designed with ultra-thin, high-strength materials covered in a pearlescent layer that reflects the shimmering hues of the lake throughout the day.
Built to host world-class artistic performances and welcome globally renowned artists, the Hanoi Opera House is expected to stand alongside the great art venues of Paris, Milan, Berlin, London, New York, and Los Angeles.
