VietNamNet Bridge – Police of Tu Liem District, Hanoi recently arrested Trinh Ngoc Duy, 21, a native of Thanh Hoa province, for theft. Notably, the thief had stayed in the house of the victim for more than 10 days until he was arrested.

The victim is Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoa, 82. The woman has one son and two daughters but she lives alone in a two-story house, in a 200m2 campus, with a tenant. However the tenant is usually absent from home. Every day, Hoa’s daughters, daughters in law and grandchildren bring meals to her.
According to the woman’s grandson - Nguyen Minh Son - in the afternoon of March 25, he visited his grandmother’s home and noticed that all air-conditioners disappeared. Son called his family members to ask about the machines and but they all said that they did not know about it.
Feeling strange, Son went to the 2nd floor to check and saw the room of his aunt, which had not been used for a long time, being locked. He was going to call his grandmother to open the room when he saw the shadow of someone on the ground. Son called his elder brother, asking him to come to catch the thief.
When the two brothers broke into the room, they saw the thief was eating candy and breaking a blender to collect copper wires. Being surprised, the thief could not run away. He sat down and asked the two men to not beat him. Son then called the police.
The thief declared himself as Trinh Ngoc Duy, 21, from Thanh Hoa Province. Duy said he had lived in the house for more than 10 days before being discovered.
The neighbors said they often see a young man walking on the terrace of the house and looked around. They thought the man is a relative of Mrs. Thoa.
The thief broke into the house through a door on the top floor. He slept in the house during the day and went out at night. He took a lot of furniture out of the house, including two air conditioners, a microwave, a rice cooker, some electric fans, three industrial sewing machines and others.
The thief also moved Mrs. Hoa’s safe box of over 100kg from the first to the second floor. He tried to break it but failed. This thief also searched the room of the tenant and stole VND10 million ($500).
According to the police, Duy is a wanderer. He used to work as a construction worker but he quit the job to become a thief.
