On September 26, Hanoi Chairman Tran Sy Thanh chaired a meeting of the organizing committee for the 70th Liberation Day celebrations, scheduled for October 10, 2024.
During the meeting, Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, Do Dinh Hong, reported that the city reviewed and decided to cancel or adjust the scale and timing of various events due to the aftermath of the storm. The severe impact of the storm prompted the city to reconsider large-scale public celebrations.
The city will cancel eight activities, including the fireworks display that was scheduled for October 10 at 30 locations across the city, as well as the artistic light show to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital.
In addition, several key events will be scaled down or rescheduled, including:
1. The awards ceremony and performance of winning songs from the contest commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital.
2. The opening of the 9th Hanoi Book Fair, which marks both the 70th anniversary of Liberation Day and the 25th anniversary of Hanoi being honored as the "City for Peace."
3. The final round of the 49th Expanded Hanoi New Newspaper Run for Peace in 2024.
4. The Outstanding Valedictorian Ceremony for graduates from universities and academies in Hanoi in 2024.
5. The finals of the public arts festival themed “Hanoi, Trust and Hope,” celebrating the 70th anniversary of Liberation Day.
6. The opening of the 2024 International Youth Festival in Hanoi.
7. The opening of the Cultural and Sports Festival for the Elderly, aimed at promoting the development of the capital.
8. The expanded Capital Theater Festival.
Concluding the meeting, Chairman Tran Sy Thanh emphasized that despite the adjustments, the events for the 70th anniversary should still reflect the capital's significance to the nation. He also called for increased efforts in media communication to ensure that the importance of the anniversary is conveyed properly.
Chairman Tran Sy Thanh instructed city officials to finalize detailed plans for the ceremonial activities, with specific assignments for the national-level celebrations and other programs that will host senior Party and government leaders, as well as international guests.
He also directed the 30 districts and towns under Hanoi's jurisdiction to focus on environmental cleanliness and street decorations under the "Green - Clean - Beautiful" initiative to create a vibrant and festive atmosphere throughout the city, while adapting to the practical conditions of each locality.
