VietNamNet Bridge – The Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra (VNSO) will hold a concert at Hanoi Opera House at 8 p.m. on May 7 and 8 under the baton of Japanese conductor Honna Tetsuji to mark the 60th anniversary of Vietnam’s victory in the Battle of Dien Bien Phu.

Violinist Bui Cong Duy and VNSO artists will also perform at the Dien Bien Phu concert featuring Poem Op.25 by Ernest Chausson, World Primiere by Nguyen Thien Dao and Symphony no.3 Eb major Op.55 Eroica by L. van Beethoven.

Honna Tetsuji,  current music director and principal conductor of VNSO, has won many international awards and conducted numerous orchestras in Japan, Shanghai, Hungary, Prague, Amterdam, Milano, Salzburg and Finland.

Tetsuji was appointed permanent conductor of the Osaka Symphony Orchestra (1995 - 2001) and principal conductor of the Japan Chamber Orchestra (1993 - 1997). From 1998 to 2001 he was permanent guest conductor of the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, and music director of the Orchestra Nipponica in 2003-2011, which mainly performs modern Japanese works.

In October 2011, VNSO made its first historic U.S. tour together with Tetsuji, giving concerts at Carnegie Hall in New York and the Symphony Hall in Boston.

Bui Cong Duy, 33, started to play violin at the age of four under the instruction of his father, Professor Dr. Bui Cong Thanh. In 1989, he won first prize at Mua Thu (fall) national music contest.

From 1991 to 1998 he was intermediate at Glinka Music College in Russia and from 1991 to 1995, he received the “Sibiri young talent” honor scholarship and the “young talent” scholarship from the Russian ministry of culture. He won first prize and Golden medal at Tchaikovski international music contest in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

From 1998 to 2003 he studied at Tchaikovski National Music College in Russia with Honors degree and from 2003 to 2006, he pursued postgraduate study at Tchaikovski Music College.

Duy has performed in various major concerts at home and abroad.

Hanoi Opera House is located at 1 Trang Tien Street in Hanoi and tickets are available at VND200,000, VND350,000 and VND500,000 per person and VND100,000 per student.
