VietNamNet Bridge – Hanoi authorities have instructed the Department of Transportation to work out a plan to curb personal vehicles through granting “quota” for newly-registered vehicles and banning some kinds of vehicles on the belt road 2 to the city’s center.

Hanoi’s Vice Chair Nguyen Van Khoi considered a Ministry of Transport’s project to restrict personal vehicles in big cities. He said that Hanoi would have to develop the bus and urban railway systems.

The city would have to develop minibuses to take passengers from residential areas to major roads, to quickly implement the bus rapid transport (BRT) and urban railway projects, Khoi said.

The Hanoi’s Vice Chair also confirmed that the city would give sufficient land to develop transport and to take residents in the old quarter to the suburbs to expand roads in the city’s hub.

Khoi assigned the local department of transport to design a project to curb personal vehicles through fixing the number of newly-registered vehicles in the city and banning some kinds of vehicles on the city’s belt road No. 2.

The official also asked the department of transport to quickly finalize the plan to collect fees from vehicles entering the city’s center and the fees for entering the city’s hub during the rush hours, the regulations on management of taxis, etc.
