The move came after the market’s rampant operations had made the headlines in the local media earlier.

Most wild birds are brought from different areas. The birds can be slaughtered at the market if customers want.

Hundreds of birds are sold at the unlicensed market every day. The market becomes more crowded in the late afternoon.

According to the vice chairman of Quoc Oai Hoang Nguyen Ung, the district authorities deployed forces to remove 26 tents illegally set up on Thang Long Avenue to sell wild birds. Two households have been fined for the violation, while many kinds of wild birds such as mynahs, oriental magpie-robins and sparrows were confiscated.

The district has also set up a task force to conduct frequent patrols on local roads, particularly Thang Long Avenue, to detect violations.
