These streets and Hang Dao, Hang Duong and Dong Xuan roads in the Hanoi Old Quarter are now reserved for pedestrians only from Friday to Sunday.

In comments to the media yesterday, Mr. Do Xuan Thuy, General Director of the Dong Xuan Joint Stock Company, said at the end of 2013, the Hanoi People's Committee approved the opening of six streets for pedestrians.

To prepare for the opening of these streets, Dong Xuan JSC has installed decorative lights and dustbins along the roads and some historical sites along these streets. Seven parking lots have been set up to serve pedestrians on weekends.

On April 11-13 and April 18-20, these streets were opened to pedestrian-only traffic for the first time.

The streets of Hang Buom, Ma May, Dao Duy Tu, Hang Giay, Luong Ngoc Quyen, and Ta Hien are in the first-grade conservation sector in Hanoi. These are home to the works that were built in the 18th -19th centuries and historical relics such as the White Horse Temple, Quan De Temple, the ancient house at 87 Ma May, Huong Tuong Temple, Kim Ngan and Dong Lac communal houses.

According to Hoan Kiem District, there are about 10,000 people living on these streets and most of them earn their livings by providing commercial and tourism services.
