VietNamNet Bridge – This year the capital city’s GDP grows only 10.1 percent while it targets to reach 12 percent. Many other goals on housing and clean water for citizens and reducing the number of third child are not achieved.

Hanoi’s GDP growth in 2011 is lower than 2010, but it is 1.67 times higher than Vietnam’s average, said Hanoi authorities at a meeting of the Hanoi People’s Council on December 6.

The city’s vice chair Nguyen Van Suu said that Hanoi failed to realize its targets for 2011 because of impacts from the global financial and economic crisis and weakness in management.

Suu said that the city’s general goal for 2012 is curbing inflation, stabilizing the economy, maintaining growth at reasonable level, improving the investment environment and the competitiveness of its economy, ensuring social welfare and raising the material and spiritual life for local residents.

The city targets to attain economic growth rate of 10-10.5 percent next year.

Meanwhile, HCM City’s GDP growth in 2011 is only 10.3 percent, compared to 11.8 percent of last year.
