In the end of August, transport investigators checked 85 mail trucks in the inner city and found that many regular trucks were being disguised as mail trucks with the postal service logo to get priority on roads during rush hours, Lao Dong (Labourer) newspaper reported.

Many of them would just stay parked on the pavement and await customers’ orders for transporting goods. Investigators found 30 violations, which included parking at wrong spots and operating without transport licence.

As per the regulations set by Ha Noi’s People’s Committee, trucks weighing more than 1.25 tonnes are allowed to enter the city only from 9pm to 6am and must have a travel licence issued by authorised agencies.

However, mail trucks delivering letters, parcels and newspapers and those transporting cash, gold, silver and foreign currency are allowed to operate round the clock.

Truck drivers had been taking advantage of this exception by disguising their trucks as mail trucks.
