The villa, which was built in the early 20th century during the French colonial period on an area of nearly 1,000 square metres, was previously owned by the family of a French doctor. Local authorities started a renovation project here in 2022 with a budget of VND14 billion (USD595,000).

According to the Hoan Kiem District People's Committee, the project is part of activities to preserve old villas and enhance the cultural, historical and architectural heritage of Hanoi's old streets. Through this project, basic techniques in preserving and restoring several French architectural works will be introduced, raising public awareness of heritage conservation.

The spiral stairs have 25 steps and are covered with tarpaulin to avoid scratches and damage during the renovation.

The second floor has two large rooms, two small rooms and two fireplaces.

The building is expected to become a French Cultural Exchange Centre.
