The Hanoi Department of Taxation has revealed a list of 23 companies in the capital with tax arrears totaling VND1.2 trillion ($56.5 million) as at May 31. Most operate in the construction and real estate sector.

The Song Da-Thang Long JSC topped the list with tax arrears of nearly VND375.2 billion ($17.2 million), followed by the Viglacera Hanoi JSC with VND88.08 billion ($4 million), the Cavico Bridge & Tunnel JSC with VND80.48 billion ($3.69 million), and the Song Da 9.06 JSC with VND68 billion ($3.1 million).

According to the department, although local authorities have cooperated with it in adopting measures to support enterprises to overcome their difficulties, some enterprises in the capital are still recording modest business performance and many have had tax arrears for long periods of time.

The department will propose authorities create supporting mechanisms and policies and classify the tax arrears so as to make collection more effective.
