VietNamNet Bridge – This dengue outbreak occurred in Phuc La ward, Ha Dong district, with 10 patients. Fortunately, there is no serious case.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tho, Director of the Center for Preventive Medicine of Ha Dong district told VietNamNet that the dengue outbreak was detected last weekend and it was immediately treated under the due process.

Early this week the Preventive Medicine Center of Ha Dong district sprayed chemicals to kill mosquito larvae in Phuc La ward, with 30 sprayers. In the next few days, this task will be continued to eliminate the root of mosquito larvae.

Medical experts said that there are many underway construction works in Phuc La Ward, where have many underground tanks, which are favorable environment for the development of mosquito larvae. Chemicals were poured into underground tanks to kill germs.

So far this year, Ha Dong District has had 14 people with dengue fever. The situation is not complicated as previous years, but according to Mr. Tho, the risk is always high because of unfavorable environment and weather.

In 2012, dengue fever in Hanoi drops by 11.6 percent compared to 2011. However, environmental pollution and constant rains, high temperature (29-33 degree Celsius) are ideal conditions for the development of dengue.

According to the Preventive Medicine Agency, the number of dengue cases in the January-July period of 2012 increased by 40 percent year on year.

Normally, the pinnacle of the dengue epidemic in Hanoi usually falls in September and October and ends on November and December. However, in recent years, it did not follow any rules.

Apart from dengue fever, hand-foot-mouth disease is also expanding strongly, especially in the South.

In HCM City, there are over 80 schools with at least two cases of hand-foot-mouth disease.

So far, the city has had nearly 8,000 cases of hand-foot-mouth disease that needed hospital treatment, reported the HCM City Preventive Medicine Centre.
