Bui Ngoc Uyen, deputy head of the company’s Foreign Affairs and Communications Division, said they started installing the cameras in March.

The cameras were installed at areas of high flood risk in different districts such as Hoan Kiem, Ba Dinh, Cau Giay, and Dong Da.

Before the installation of the cameras, inspectors had to report the flooding situation to the company’s operation centre via walkie-talkie, Uyen said.

The new cameras will help make flood monitoring and control quicker and more effective, he said.

Data from the cameras give real-time images that show inspectors the exact level of flooding at any given time. The images from the cameras can then be used by inspectors as a basis for deploying workers, equipment, and machines to the scene to help control the flooding.

The data will also be uploaded to the flood warning system to allow workers to give support to residents who want to avoid the inundated areas.

Research conducted by the company showed that Hanoi has 15 high flood risk areas this rainy season, including the Phan Boi Chau-Ly Thuong Kiet and Duong Thanh-Bat Dan-Nha Hoa intersections, and Truong Chinh, Minh Khai, and Pham Van Dong roads.
