Four cycling machines attached to a water filtration system have been installed on the banks of Hoang Cau Lake in Hanoi's Dong Da District.

The dual-purpose bicycles help users exercise and pump water into a filtering area and then return the clean water into the lake.

The bicycles are linked to a power generator and a water filtration system. When people use the bicycles, the generator will run and produce power. The power transmitted into a battery helps the water filtration operate to pump water from the lake into a filter tank. After being filtered, water is pumped back into the lake. This model has also been implemented at Nhieu Loc Canal in HCM City.

Residents are excited to use the machines, especially in the morning and late afternoon.

According to the Hanoi Sewage and Drainage Ltd Company, the company has co-operated with local authorities to implement measures to tackle pollution in lakes in the city.

For example, they have grown aquatic plants, installed aeration machines or used Redoxy-3C technology from Germany to purify polluted lake water.

The company has also installed equipment at waste water pipes of canteens, restaurants or mechanic stores to separate oil and cooking oil from waste water before it is discharged into the environment, Vietnam News Agency reported. — VNS
