Ms. Luu Thi Lien, deputy director of the Hanoi Health Department, said the hospital’s three reserve tanks were out of water on September 29. The hospital had to purchase 100 cubic meters of water on September 29-30 to serve its operations.
As the amount of water purchased is limited, the hospital asked the Hanoi Department of Health’s permission to transfer critically ill patients to the Central Obstetrics Hospital and patients with minor illness to the maternity ward of other hospitals in Hanoi.
This is the 2nd hospital in Hanoi, after the Military Hospital 108 that has had trouble due to water shortage. At the Military Hospital 108, patients and their families had to carry water from reserve tanks to their rooms.
The River Da water pipe ruptured the 14th time on September 25 and the 15th time on September 26.
The incidents left 70,000 households in Bac Tu Liem, Nam Tu Liem, Ha Dong and Dong Da districts of Hanoi without water for several days.
Ton said the second phase of the construction project of the new River Da water pipe across Thang Long Boulevard (where the pipe breaks have been frequent) would begin in October and is expected to be completed in May 2016.
