Hanoi will continue to study and finalize the necessary procedures for implementing a scheme that aims to restrict and ban motorcycles from inner-city districts in the coming years.

The People’s Committee of Hanoi has also assigned the Department of Transport to develop a plan for imposing fees on motor vehicles entering specific areas within the city. This measure is intended to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce environmental pollution.

Under the program, Hanoi aims for the urban economy to contribute 85% of the city’s GRDP by 2025 and increase the contribution rate to 90% by 2030.

Currently, Hanoi has around eight million vehicles, with over six million being motorcycles. There are also more than one million vehicles from other provinces and cities that frequently travel to the capital city.

The plan to ban motorbikes from the inner districts of Hanoi has been proposed for a long time and has recently generated public interest and debate.
