hanoi poised to play host to major events throughout 2020 hinh 0

To kickstart the New Year and welcome in 2020, 30 venues throughout Hanoi will be hosting spectacular firework displays which will start as we enter January 25, the first day of 2020 according to the Lunar Calendar.

In addition to magnificent displays of fireworks, members of the public will also have the chance to celebrate the beginning of the Lunar New Year by attending various music galas.

Other activities include a calligraphy festival held at the Temple of Literature, a traditional dragon boat race taking place in Ho Tay, also known as West Lake, and an annual wrestling festival held in Thach That district.

Moreover, other cultural events including movie screenings will be organised across the capital as one of the many activities being held to celebrate Tet and the 90th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam which took place on February 3, 1930.

Throughout the year a range of notable occasions will be taking place such as a photo exhibition held at both Exhibition House on 93 Dinh Tien Hoang street and 45 Trang Tien street, a cycling tournament around Ho Guom, also known as Sword Lake, along with the debut F1 Vietnam Grand Prix. All of these exciting activities are being scheduled to take place as a means of commemorating Reunification Day on April 30 and International Labour Day on May 1.

As we move into summer, the National Convention Centre will be hosting a grand ceremony aimed at marking the 130th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh on May 19.

2020 also marks the 1,010th anniversary since the foundation of the capital, previously known as Thang Long, in 1010. A food festival, a folk-art festival, and various sporting activities are due to transpire during October on pedestrian streets around Ho Guom to commemorate this milestone.

Authorities in Hanoi have asked relevant agencies to tighten security and ensure that traffic safety is maintained in order to keep both residents and tourists safe during the festive period. VOV
