VietNamNet Bridge – These people often sent links containing spyware for yahoo chatters to steal their account passwords. Getting the passwords, they forged the nick owners to cheat people in their friends list.

The Hanoi Anti-Hi-tech Crime Police Agency has discovered a group of people who made swindling through yahoo nicks.

This group includes 18 subjects who are students in Quang Tri Province. The leader is Nguyen Duc Bi, 16, in Quang Tri Town, Quang Tri province.

Earlier, police received reports of the victims whose yahoo nicks were stolen. The nick thieves used the stolen nicks to scam people in the victim's friends list.

The police clarified the tricks of yahoo nick thieves: sending links that contain keylog or spyware to yahoo nick owners. After clicking the link, the keylog program will be automatically installed in the victim’s computers and send the keystrokes, copy the screen… to the mailbox of nick thieves.

Another trick of nick thieves is sending the links to photo and clip websites to victims. After they click the links, login into their yahoo or facebook accounts, their accounts and passwords will be stolen by these subjects.

Next, the nick thieves used the stolen nicks to cheat people in the victim’s friend list. They usually asked these people to send codes of phone card to them. These subjects could also use yahoo nick of others in the friend list and continued to commit similar tricks.

According to the police, the 18 members in the group led by Nguyen Duc Bi are high school students in Quang Tri.

Investigators have clarified hundreds of yahoo nicks being stolen to commit fraud by this group.

Police suggest the victims who lost their yahoo nick to contact the Hanoi Anti-Hi-tech Crime Police Team at No. 7 Thien Quang Street, Hanoi.
