On the night of November 23 and into the early morning of November 24, the Drug Crime Investigation Department (C04) under the Ministry of Public Security launched a high-stakes raid on a major drug trafficking network in Bach Dang Street, Hanoi. The suspects, heavily armed, fiercely resisted arrest and even fired back at police officers.
According to initial reports, police had to break through three layers of doors and deploy smoke grenades to storm the premises. Officers arrested five individuals at the scene and confiscated three military-grade firearms, one grenade, and a large quantity of narcotics.

Colonel Than Manh Hung, Head of Division 3 under C04, said the group was extremely aggressive. As the police closed in, the suspects set a significant amount of drugs on fire at the stairwell in a desperate attempt to destroy evidence and opened fire to threaten the officers.
During the operation, two of the suspects climbed onto the rooftops of adjacent houses in an effort to flee. However, police used drones to pinpoint their locations and quickly apprehended them.
Further searches of a related suspect’s residence uncovered an additional 48,000 ecstasy pills and one kilogram of crystal meth.
Residents shocked by late-night standoff
Locals on Bach Dang Street told VietNamNet that around 10:00 p.m. on November 23, heavily armed police sealed off an alley in the area.
“That house was always locked with two layers of doors. The people inside rarely spoke to neighbors and often had strange visitors late at night. When the police arrived, I heard gunshots fired into the air to suppress them,” a witness recounted.
By around 6:00 a.m. on November 24, the police had completed the operation and escorted the suspects away. The case is still under investigation.
