Earlier, at the Hanoi People’s Council meeting on December 7, Mr. Tran Trong Duc, Chairman of the Inspection Commission of the Hanoi Party Committee, said that to become a public servant in Hanoi, people have to pay around VND100 million ($5,000).
Mr. Duc also pointed out that the heads of the Home Affair Divisions of districts are those who did this.
Long said that "with his position and his responsibility, Mr. Duc could not speak without proof” so the information is grounded.
At the meeting to announce the public administrative reform index on December 17, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that when they got information on corruption related to public servant recruitment, Hanoi officials must immediately inspect for clarification.
With the Deputy PM’s direction, Long said the city would check the process of public servant recruitment.
"We will have to find out the truth and we will have the information," Long committed.
Tran Trong Duc told Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper that the statement he made at the Hanoi People's Council session is based on the people's opinion.
The information is very much of interest by the public. VietNamNet readers said that paying money to become a public servant is very popular, with various forms of corruption.
However, the public opinion is dissatisfied when some officials seemed to be “surprised” about the information.
They want the authorities to conduct inspection throughout the country and in all sectors.
