Hanoi and Vietnam Grand Prix Limited Liability Company had to halt the race which was initially scheduled to take place in April 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The organiser then had to remove the surrounding fences although the entire 5.60-km racetrack had been completed after 11 months of the construction process.

The removal aimed to ease traffic congestion in Le Quang Dao and Le Duc Tho streets.

The track has since been abandoned and many sections have been covered by wild grass.

Some areas in the project have become dumping sites.

My Dinh Nation Sports Complex has sent a report to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to ask Hanoi People's Committee to return 12.86 hectares of land they had used for the track construction.
