Tens of thousands of Hanoians and Saigonese, old and young alike, heralded the New Year on the street on December 31 night with music and in the light of low-range display of fireworks.
In Hanoi, crowds began to gather along colourfully-decorated streets since late afternoon to enjoy music and dance performances around the Hoan Kiem Lake in the city’s central area.
The August Revolution Square in front of the Opera House was illuminated with splendid light. Hundreds of artists entertained the audiences with both traditional and modern music and dances as well as a show of traditional long dress and dance sport performances.
The spirit was also high at Ba Kieu temple, Thang Long puppetry theatre and the Old Quarter in the vicinity.
For many Hanoians, it has become a tradition to go to Hoan Kiem Lake to usher in both the solar and lunar New Year.
In HCM City, tens of thousands of people also flocked to the street to welcome the New Year.
