The utility said all major electricity indicators had reached unprecedented levels.

Specifically, the city’s peak power capacity, or Pmax, reached 6,203 MW at 9:30 p.m. on May 25 - the highest level ever recorded and 3.5% higher than the previous peak in 2025 of 5,992 MW. The evening peak reflected surging demand for air conditioners and household appliances after working hours.

Electricity consumption on May 25 also climbed to 125.87 million kWh, up 2.4% from the previous record of 122.84 million kWh set in 2025.

According to EVNHANOI, prolonged extreme heat and high temperatures have sharply increased demand for cooling devices. At the same time, outdoor electrical equipment has been forced to operate under harsh conditions, raising the risk of localized overloads during peak hours.

Weather forecasts indicate that the heatwave will continue in the coming days, with electricity demand across Hanoi expected to rise further.

To encourage safe, efficient and economical electricity use, EVNHANOI has urged residents to reduce pressure on the power system during peak heat periods.

Households are advised to set air conditioners at 26 degrees Celsius or higher and combine them with electric fans to improve cooling efficiency. Residents are also encouraged to prioritize Eco mode on electrical appliances whenever possible.

In addition, EVNHANOI recommended turning off electrical devices when not in use, limiting the simultaneous use of high-capacity appliances, and unplugging devices instead of leaving them on standby mode.

The corporation said energy-saving practices would not only help reduce electricity bills but also contribute to the safe and stable operation of the power grid during the summer heatwave.
