Board members, teachers, and family welcoming Minh Khanh after his IOAA success.
In 2023, Khanh brought joy to teachers, friends, and family by earning a Silver Medal at the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO). Two years later, he achieved another milestone by securing a Silver Medal at the IOAA 2025. These two achievements in completely different fields - general science and astronomy - reflect his boundless passion for knowledge.
Khanh is among the very few students from a private school in Hanoi to be selected for national teams at international Olympiads. His consistent success not only brings pride to himself and his family but also highlights the growing stature of Newton School, which has been nurturing talent for the past 16 years.
A well-rounded student with an outstanding track record
Teachers often call Khanh a “well-rounded student.” Besides excelling in physics and astronomy, he also performs strongly in mathematics, chemistry, biology, and English. His record includes second prize in Hanoi’s Citywide Math Competition, second prize in science, third prize in advanced chemistry, third prize in city-level math while still in 10th grade competing against 12th graders, and a Silver Medal in physics at the 18th Hung Vuong Summer Camp in 2024.
In the 2024 National Excellent Student Competition, Khanh continued to impress by winning second prize in physics. Remarkably, this was the first time a student from a private school competed and earned an award at this prestigious contest. For two consecutive years, he was honored as one of Hanoi’s Outstanding Students.
A turning point from a bold decision
Few people know that during the high school entrance exams for the 2023-2024 academic year, Khanh was admitted to several elite specialized programs, including math and physics at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, and math and chemistry at the High School for Gifted Students, Vietnam National University. However, he and his family chose a different path by enrolling in Newton’s 10G0 scholarship class. This bold choice opened up an unforgettable journey.
Pham Minh, Khanh’s mother, shared: “Over the past two years, the school has helped my son maximize his academic potential while also improving his skills, foreign languages, and confidence. Newton has truly been a launching pad for his talent.”
Newton School provides not only a modern learning environment but also constant encouragement for students to explore, take on challenges, and push their limits. From academic clubs to national and international competitions, the school has always been by Khanh’s side, offering opportunities to shine.
Dreaming of scientific research
Beyond his medals, Khanh dreams of pursuing a career in scientific research, particularly in physics and astronomy. He hopes to study in advanced educational environments abroad and eventually return to Vietnam to contribute his knowledge and research. His current achievements mark just the beginning of a determined journey ahead.
Khanh’s success is not only a personal triumph but also a testament to the dedication of Newton School. Over its 16 years of development, Newton has proved itself to be a strong foundation for nurturing young talent, showing that students from private schools can reach intellectual heights and stand shoulder to shoulder with their international peers.
