VietNamNet Bridge – The name plates of ten streets in Hanoi like Le Thai To, Le Thach, Le Lai, Phan Boi Chau, etc. now includes brief introduction of these national heroes and well-known men.
These new street name plates have just appeared on Hanoi’s streets since the early 2012.
On Le Thai To street, the name plate does not have only the name of the first
King of the late Le Dynasty, but also several lines about the King and his credit to the country.
Hanoians warmly support this change.
Nguyen Van Trung, from Phuc Tan Ward, Hoan Kiem District, said that this change
is necessary because these street name plates not only remind people about the
magnanimous past, but also educate the youth of the heroic tradition of their ancestors.
“Since these plates are installed, I have seen many young people stop to read them.
I think this is a good way to teach the youth about Vietnamese history,” said Trung,
a guard at Hoan Kiem Lake.
Dang Tien Dong, from Bac Giang province, said: “I travel Hanoi every Tet holiday
and this year I’m really surprised by this change. This is a very good way of teaching
history to people. I hope that this method will be applied in other provinces”.
Many cities in the world have used such street name plates to provide people with
information about the places and well-known. Many people hope that Hanoi authorities will use this type of plates widely.
Vice Chair of Hoan Kiem district Nguyen Quoc Hoa said that this type of plates has been used
for over ten streets in Hoan Kiem district in a pilot program. If the public supports this idea,
it will be applied throughout the city.
