The census aims to analyse and forecast population and housing development in the city and supply data for the national census.

The census will be conducted over 25 days, ending on April 25.

All Vietnamese people regularly living in Hanoi will be counted. The census will also ask about the state of housing, fuel for lighting and cooking, water sources and basic furniture.

Personal information of those counted by the census will be protected based on the Law on Statistics.

Hanoi will start by counting residents living on the water because they do not have stable houses on land.
