According to Hungarian experts, Ha Noi should use oil and grease removing devices made of plastic and steel. These devices are small and easy to be installed.

Karoly, who is former president of European Water Association, said that in Hungary, as well as in several European countries, waste water from production bases, restaurants, hotels, petrol stations, processing areas and residential areas is treated with these devices. Although the installation fee is high, they bring about enormous environmental benefits.

A representative of Ha Noi Construction Department said that removing oil and grease from water is extremely necessary. The application of the device will be considered carefully to ensure conformity with Ha Noi’s climate and environmental conditions, he added.

Ung Quoc Dung, editor-in-chief of Viet Nam Water Supply and Sewerage Magazine, said that Ha Noi had applied Redoxy-3C to purify its lakes’ water, but it was only a temporary solution.

For long term solutions, he supported the idea of removing oil, grease and impurities out of water.

According to Ha Noi Sewage and Drainage Company, the city’s lakes are contaminated with animal fats. To Lich, Kim Nguu, Lu, Set rivers and 13 other lakes in the city are polluted with grease, that is 0.5mg to 2.5mg of grease per litre, higher than the national standard. Undissolved and accumulated grease sticks to sewers. Without proper treatment, the grease will heavily pollute the environment.
