VietNamNet Bridge – Hanoi’s traffic police officers will begin imposing fines on motorcycle drivers carrying kids without a helmet from April 8, says Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Hau, deputy head of the Hanoi Road-Railway Traffic Police Department.

 

 

Hau says the police would firstly handle this type of violations in the three districts of Ba Dinh, Cau Giay and Dong Da.

From April 1 to 7, the police will only remind the violators and they will officially punish the violators from April 8. From this date, electric bikers who do not wear a helmet will also be fined.

According to the police official, in addition to launching a campaign calling for people to wear helmets for their kids on the street, Hanoi traffic police force will coordinate with schools to educate children on the use of helmets.

"In the case of transportation of children under 6 years old and in the emergency cases, the drivers will not be sanctioned," Lt. Col. Hau said.

This is an experimental campaign, which will be implemented until April 30. Lt. Col. Hau said that similar campaigns will be launched this year, focusing on the drivers carrying children without a helmet.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), up to 60 percent of Vietnamese children are facing the risk of traffic accidents due to not wearing a helmet.
