The city will build an additional 25 parks, repair and maintain 104 artificial lakes, and treat 122 polluted lakes in the inner city.

More wastewater treatment plants will be developed, in the expectation that, by 2019, all wastewater in urban districts is treated to improve the water quality in the To Lich and Nhue rivers.

The city has effectively operated a solid waste treatment plant that generates power from waste with incineration technology. It has received 3 foreign investors wishing to build more waste treatment plants with that technology in the city’s Nam Son, Xuan Son and Dong Ke districts.

Hanoi is also carrying out a programme to plant one million trees. The city hopes that by 2020, green areas will reach 10-11sq.m per person.

Authorities are also focusing on relocation and resettlement plans for households living in areas affected by climate change and natural disasters.

Organising and guiding relief plans are also being implemented to ensure urban citizens can adapt to climate change.

Deputy director of Ha Noi’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment Le Tuan Dinh said that in the future, the city will continue to take advantage of opportunities for low-carbon development and improving the quality of life for residents.
