A book street will be organized in Ngo Quyen and Dinh Le Street, Hanoi on April 19 in the framework of the Vietnam’s Book Day, announced the Ministry of Information and Communication yesterday.

The announcement was made at a press conference to reveal the plan to organize the first Vietnam’s Book Day in April 19-21.

Visitors to the book street can exchange and trade books and enjoy performances of ca tru and quan ho art forms, which have been recognized by UNESCO as intangible  cultural heritage of humanity.

Various activities will be hosted to highlight book values and reading culture and honor those who have written, collected, printed, published and preserved books, said Chu Van Hoa, head of the ministry’s Publishing and Printing Department.

The Book Day will take place in three main places in Hanoi including Ly Thai To Square, Temple of Literature and National Library of Vietnam.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will announce the decision to establish the Vietnam’s Book Day on April 19. Seminars on books and reading culture will be hosted in the Temple of Literature.

Other activities like book fair, book awards, book collection for children in the poor and remote areas will also be organized.

Hanoians will have chance to exchange with leading writers and scholars who have made great contributions to the development of reading culture in Vietnam like Professor Le Van Lan, writer To Hoai and writer Nguyen Nhat Anh.
