VietNamNet Bridge – Free screenings of Vietnamese and Korean animated films will be held at the Au Co Arts Centre in Hanoi on June 4 and 5.

The festival will introduce the Korean films Cloud Bread, Tayo, Watch Car, Tobot and Airport Diary 3. Meanwhile, Vietnamese animators will show the works Bong Hoa Mat Troi (Sunflower), Soc Nau Dang Yeu (Lovely Squirrel) and Chuyen O Trang Trai (Farm Story).

Tickets to the free screenings are available at the Korean Cultural Centre at 49 Nguyen Du Street, Hai Ba Trung District.

The screenings are among activities to be held as part of the 2016 Vietnam-Republic of Korea Animation Festival, co-hosted by the Korean Cultural Centre and Vietnam’s Department of Cinematography.

The festival will also include a creative class, where Vietnamese film makers will have an opportunity for to meet and talk with major Korean animated producers about animated film production, distribution, import and export.

The highlight of the festival is an award ceremony of a short animated cartoon making contest on June 3. Launched in March with two categories (professional and amateur), the contest attracted 23 entries by 23 film studios and individuals.

In the category for professional film makers, the first prize went to ‘The adventure of Egg, Lime and Chilly’ by Colory Animation Studio while the second prize was presented to ‘Bong Hoa Mat Troi’ (Sunflower) by the Vietnam Animation Ltd.Co.

Nguyen Thanh Tuyen and Huynh Anh Kiet were named the first and second prize winners in the amateur group for their entries entitled ‘Cao, Ga Va Chuot’ (Fox, Chicken and Mouse), and ‘Bai Hat Cua Hoa Trang’ (Song of the white flower), respectively.

First launched in 2014, the annual festival targets to boost co-operation and exchanges between filmmakers from the two countries, while assisting Vietnam develop its film-making industry.
