According to a program to beautify the city in 2011-2015 period, Hanoi will carry out 121 projects, including: burying hanging electric wires and cables in some major streets, beautifying the area around the Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc square, around the Hoan Kiem Lake, upgrading infrastructure facilities of some areas, repairing flower gardens and the street light system, installing 10,000 dustbins and building 120 public toilets.

Of the over VND2.5 trillion of capital, the city will contribute VND1.56 trillion, VND440 billion from district governments and over VND400 billion from other sources.

Last year, to welcome Hanoi’s 1000th anniversary, Hanoi spent hundreds of billions of dong to re-pave many streets, but the new pavements were quickly broken after several months.

Some big works that opened for the public last year – Hoa Binh Park, Thang Long Avenue, Hanoi Museum – have degraded very quickly.
