Match winner: Argentine striker Gonzalo Marronkle (right) scored a double for Ha Noi T&T who beat SHB Da Nang 2-0 in the late match yesterday in the capital.

The defending champions now have secured 29 points, after winning at the Hang Day Stadium, equaling the runner-up Becamex Binh Duong, but they have one match left.

Captain Gonzalo Marronkle chested the ball in the 16.50m line before firing a cannon shot to beat keeper Le Van Hung of former winner Da Nang at the 15th minute.

It is his seventh goal in the tournament after 12 matches.

The hosts led 2-0 just seven minutes after the break. The Argentinean striker Marronkle bagged his second goal from a straight shoot after a perfect pass by midfielder Nguyen Hong Tien and also Da Nang's defender Chau Le Phuoc Vinh, who made a positional mistake.

Nguyen Ngoc Duy was put in the field to strengthen Ha Noi T&T in the frontline after several opportunities were missed.

He also wasted a threatening chance at the 68th minute with a shoot that touched the cross bar and travelled wide.

Da Nang tried to reorganise their line up and created a number of attacks, but yesterday was not a favourable day for the team as the weather was hot while a sudden rain in the first half brought them a lot of difficulties.

The misunderstanding between the players was also a problem as they failed to connect with each other, providing the field for the host to play however they desired.

Da Nang's only threatening shoot was near the end of the first half as Zbrun Matias Jose broke into Ha Noi T&T's box, but his kick went over the bar.

In the second half, Jose again received a good pass near the penalty area, but this time his attempt was untargeted.

The V-League will be back after a two-week break this weekend.

Da Nang with 20 points after 14 matches rank fourth and will play third-placed Thanh Hoa on their home turf of Chi Lang Stadium.

Meanwhile, Ha Noi T&T will travel to Hai Phong to face the host Hai Phong FC, whose head coach Dylan Kerr was on the stand at Hang Day yesterday.

T&T's Thanh fined for criticising officials

Halfback Dinh Tien Thanh has been banned from playing two matches because of his misbehaviour with referee Tran Trung Hieu and his assistants last week.

The Hai Phong player criticised Hieu who made mistakes leading to the team's 0-2 loss to Quang Nam in the 16th round.

Thanh will also be fined VND5 million.

It is said that the referee team will also face heavy disciplinary measures and may be sidelined for some time.
