According to the director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Nguyen Xuan Dai, enterprises, cooperatives and farming households have applied automatic drip irrigation and automatic temperature adjustment in greenhouses and membrane houses to save labor costs and water resources, and increase crop yields.

In animal husbandry, many farms are using sensor systems and automatic feeding system which manage livestock with software.

Xu Doai Agriculture Cooperative has built a membrane house on the entire grape growing area and applied drip irrigation to provide nutrients to each plant, keeping the soil moist and reducing labor costs.

After two years of trying the new farming method and experiencing failures, the grape cultivation has now brought profits tens of times higher compared with traditional crop cultivation. The initial achievement prompted Xu Doai Grape Farm to call for more capital and land to establish Xu Doai Agriculture Cooperative.

The success has led to use of high technology and digital transformation in the suburban districts of Hanoi.

Do Thi Quynh Anh, deputy chair of Quoc Oai district Farmers Association, said the association helps members use digital technologies in agricultural production. The grape production model in Cong Hoa commune uses software that controls input materials such as fertilizer and crop traceability.

The district’s farmers association is planning to organize training courses to help its members use digital technologies in production. It has helped farmers install Nong Dan Viet Nam (Vietnam’s farmers) and Dan Viet (Vietnamese people) apps for better access to information about agricultural production and markets.

Applying an electronic diary process, Chuc Son Clean Vegetable and Fruit Cooperative in Chuong My district has gained satisfactory results. The labeling for traceability has made product information transparent. Its vegetable output is now stable, with three tons a day, and it can earn a profit of tens of billions of dong a year.

According to Hoang Van Kham from the cooperative, production management is now carried out with smartphones. All the data about farming, such as cultivating, growing and harvesting, allows clients to trace the cultivation history of products.

A report found that Hanoi has 285 agricultural production models using high technologies. The value of high-tech agricultural products now accounts for 40 percent of total agricultural production value of the capital city.
